Grade 3 Technology Class

Students raising handsThird grade is the first year that students  meet in the Tech Center during the entire year. The focus in grade 3 is a continuance of using basic computer applications and navigating between windows and browser screens. Students additionally focus on file management as well as keyboarding skills. Students at this level are introduced to desktop publishing using Microsoft Publisher by creating a Fact Book about a topic that they work on in one of the regular subject area classes.

All classes engage in age level appropriate lessons about the social aspects of technology including, Internet safety, security,  netiquette,  and retrieving, filtering, and using information and media from the web.

Current Project

3rd Grade students are currently creating a word processing document with the focus on moving and formatting images. We've just finished gathering the content that will appear on the pages and will move into placing images where we wish them to appear on a document and formatting features such as wrapping text, adding borders, changing the shapes, and making colors transparent.

Practice Keyboarding

Changes in New Jersey's method of testing along with the reliance on using computer devices require that students develop proper and efficient keyboarding skills by 3rd grade. While we will do our best to provide training and practice, it's imperative that students practice keyboarding skills regularly. Free websites that provide fun training are:

Please encourage your children to practice keyboarding at home regularly.
